Mel Mill

It is with deep regret that we announce the sad passing away of Mel Mill

Mel was a founding member of the BSDB's and was one of the original Fisherman's Tavern group who decided to form the club all those years ago. He remembered and spoke fondly of Billy Steel and was present at Muirton Park on that glorious day in 1962 when the League Championship was secured.

Mel also served as secretary of the club and indeed the DSA as secretary in the time after administration first time around.

He will be remembered by a great many people both within the BSDB's and further afield not only for his love of the Dark Blues but for his booming voice and his choice of headgear in the South Enclosure and at the hospitality suites.

Mel died on Saturday after a long illness and he will be cremated on Thursday at 10.15 Crematorium. Our thoughts are with his wife Maureen, sons Steven and Stewart and extended family at this sad time.

THE BSDB's GREAT SMARTIES FUNDRAISER FOR DFC

This is a new fundraising idea which is simple and everyone can take part in.

To take part, everyone needs to buy a tube of smarties and when it's empty start to collect 20ps in the tube. When the tube is full sellotape it shut and return to a BSDB Committee Member before Christmas.  We would ask everyone to try to fill at least one tube, but the more tubes you can fill the better. Funds raised are for DFC and as one of biggest supporters' clubs we urge everyone to get behind the campaign to save our beloved club.

B S D B   Q U I Z   N I G H T

The BSDB Quiz Night , held at the Forthill Sports Club, Broughty Ferry, on Wednesday 24th November 2010 was a great success - RAISING A FURTHER £1,000 for the DFCSS!

This amount will be added to the £2,000 already donated by the BSDB.

The event was well attended with all quiz tables sold and the night's takings were boosted by an auction of memorabilia and a raffle.

The quiz was keenly contested and would have challenged the TV "Eggheads"!.

Final placing's were:   Winners: 'Toadsuckers'

                                        Second: 'Sporting a Beergut'

                                        Third: 'Joe Gilroy's Lovechild'

                                        Fourth: 'Cox's Pippins'.

The winners prize was a Dens Park Boardroom Hospitality package and our thanks go to Dundee FC for their kind donation of this fabulous prize.

Apologies must go to 'Roy's Rover's' who were mistakenly given the booby prize. They were not the worst team but due to a miscalculation were awarded it on the night.

The BSDB Committee wish to express their heartfelt thanks to those members who  worked hard to get the event up and running and in particular to :

Nikki for organising the hall

Brian Wilson for doing the quiz

Anne, Jackie, Roy and Stephen for their hard work on the night

To everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and to everyone who attended the event

(given that it was a very cold and frosty evening) for taking part in the quiz, buying raffle tickets and bidding for items in the auction. Your generosity made the evening the success that it was, keeping up the BSDB's great tradition of raising funds.

Photos of the event can be seen on the Photo Gallery page >

BSDB Pledge

The BSDB are delighted to announce that our pledged £1000 donation to Dundee FC has been INCREASED to £2000.

Original statement from BSDB Chairman, Chris Campbell

"Prior to the recent announcement regarding DFC entering administration, I attended a meeting at Dens, chaired by Harry, that outlined the situation and what we (assembled businessmen & fans) could possibly do to help.

In accordance with the aims & constitution of the BSDB, we felt we had to do something to assist our beloved club and therefore we have agreed to pledge £1000 of BSDB funds (with conditions).

The money will go towards helping the club POST administration & the BSDB will receive the appropriate number of shares in DFC. These shares, could at some point in the future, be re-allocated to the DFCSS in their attempts to be the largest shareholders/owners of DFC.

No doubt we will have to consider other fund raising activities & would welcome any ideas and most importantly anyone who wants to help organise events!

Our funds therefore could become stretched given this pledge AND the sponsorship of Harkins and Griffiths.

To ensure we maintain adequate club funds, it's imperative that we do not take big "hits" on buses & therefore we will increase the agreed prices by £1 per seat to help offset this risk. I'm sure you will agree this is a "small price to pay".

Therefore, bus prices will be:

Adult Member - £10
Junior - £7
Adult Non Member - £11
Junior Non Member - £8

Prices will apply from this Saturday.

Thanks, Chris."

BUS TRAVEL AGREEMENT WITH THE FERRY BRANCH DFC SUPPORTERS

We are pleased to announce that the BSDB committee has entered into an arrangement with Ferry Branch DFC Supporters on buses for members.

With immediate effect, Ferry Branch members are welcome to travel on any away bus the BSDB's are running this season. Their members will be able to travel at our discounted members’ rate. Also with immediate effect, BSDB members will be able to use the Ferry bus from Fort Bar to Dens and back for all home league games. The Ferry branch run a bus from the Fort to Dens & back for every home league game and sometimes for cup games. The bus usually leaves the Fort at 2.20pm and drops off on Provost Road and picks up after the match returning to the Fort.  The members’ rates are £2 for adults and £1 for juniors. The Ferry branch don't have a web site but they are on Facebook and updates can be found here  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ferry-Branch-DFC-Supporters-Club/105521593875

Just turn up at the Fort and make yourself know to the Ferry branch organisers, letting them know that you are a member of BSDB. The Ferry branch have a number of family and junior members and children are made welcome at the Fort. The buses are subsidised by the Fort so there is an expectation that you will be providing some custom for the bar.  It’s a great opportunity to leave the car behind and enjoy some lunch and refreshments and watch the football on Sky.

The BSDB and Ferry committees are pleased to have this reciprocal arrangement which we think will help both clubs and be a mutual benefit to both sets of members.

The key points of the above arrangement will be shown on the BSDB web site travel page.
